It is a rare feat to come across a new menswear label that balances the maturity of fine luxury and experimentation of street wear. Trio Daniel Blechman and brothers James and David Ardinast of Berlin based line SOPOPULAR have found the formula.

The label is created for the man who maintains strong principles without loosing sight of his youth. In handling a garment, each design detail is strong enough to stand on its own – together, they cast a line solid with integrity. Manufactured in Germany, the attractive collection delivers something beyond clothing embodied in the work of these talented image makers. www.sopopular.net

When multiple industries and talents collide, the reaction can be outstanding enough to make the grounds of a city shift. The empty venues and frozen streets of Berlin following Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week paid homage to a week that was so packed with dynamic events it was enough to exhaust the city’s resources, if only for a few days.
The unique nature of this season combined various international tradeshows and independent showrooms alongside the catwalk to bridge all areas of the industry. Premium, Bread & Butter, and JAM where among the tradeshows that brought over 120,000 professional visitors and 1,600 exhibitors to represent international emerging and top fashion labels. Major lines shown in the tents at Bebelplatz included Boss Black, Custo Barcelona, Arrondissement AQ1, JOOP!, Schumacher, Dimitri, Penkov and Mongrels in Common.
Journalists, Press Agents, and Buyers from all over the world come to Berlin to experience the collective nature of this event. A true sense of partnership between industry leaders and emerging talent is apparent. The Showroom Meile has become a staple event during Fashion Week integrating, fashion, art, music reinforcing the notion that no industry should survive independently.
Private galleries and showrooms held their own events to showcase talent on a more intimate scale. “Abnegation” by Luigi & Luca, Italian Photographers joined forces with Berlin labels at Abnormals Gallery. Spanish label PotiPoti held an opening at their new store in collaboration with Spanish magazine NEO2. Esther Perbandt is an established brand whose store and showroom has become an important benchmark for the city’s new wave of design talent. Projekt Galerie Showrooms hosted the opening Fashion Week party at Gallery96 as well as offsite shows and designer sales open to the public. Temporary Showroom focused on press and buyers relations to bring the necessary attention to their ever evolving roster of brands.
These supporting events have formed a strong framework embedded in the essence of the city that will continue to draw international attention to Berlin. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has left an impression that will keep the city resonating, at least until next Fashion Week. See you in July. - Katherine Koniecki, Preston Catalogue International Correspondent

The Stanley Park Environmental Art Project was born out of a desire to respond creatively to the devastating damage done to the Park in a 2006 windstorm. Four artists teams were selected to create works that would either leave the landscape unharmed or produce ecological benefits, using only natural materials. A collaborative effort between artists, ecologists, park stewards, and the ecology of the park itself, the semi-permanent Art Project was installed in summer 2009.
